Like thousands of other Tucson residents, you probably rely on your vehicle almost every day. It needs to be in top shape so you can commute to work, drive the kids to school, and run various errands. If your vehicle starts making one of the below noises—or any unusual noises—it’s important that you take it to an experienced automotive repair shop in Tucson. The sooner you go in for repairs, the less your repair bill will be.

Grinding

Grinding is one of the most common signs of a transmission malfunction. If you hear a distinct grinding noise while shifting your manual transmission, it might mean that your clutch is worn. Hopefully your clutch only needs to be adjusted or replaced; however, you should be prepared for a more substantial repair job.

Banging

A heavy clunking, banging, or knocking sound is definitely cause for concern. It could be something as innocuous as a spark plug malfunction or something as serious as a dislodged component. Either way, you shouldn’t wait for the banging sound to disappear—take it to an auto expert as soon as possible.

Rattling

Rattling may indicate a problem with your vehicle’s camshaft belt, which is responsible for ensuring the proper opening and closing of your engine’s valves. While your vehicle may function tolerably well with a problematic camshaft belt, it’s only a matter of time before you experience total engine failure.

Squealing

There are several reasons why your vehicle might make a squealing noise. If you hear a squealing noise while accelerating, it’s likely because you have a loose fan belt. Squealing brakes indicate that the brake pads are worn and need to be replaced. Do yourself a favor and take your car in before any more problems crop up.
