What to Do If Your Car is Overheating

Monday, April 20th, 2015

If you own a vehicle, you have to be prepared for a certain amount of wear and tear that could cause an issue with your car. Keep reading to find out what to do if your car overheats to minimize the damage and get back on the road as soon as possible.

Turn Off the Car

When your temperature gauge starts to climb, it is very important to turn the car off. This gives the engine some time to cool down and prevents more serious problems. You should also open the hood to allow air to circulate through the engine and cool it down a little bit more. Do not uncap the radiator or the water systems. Since so much pressure has accumulated inside, removing these caps will make the pressure pop out and the hot air inside could burn you.

Call an Auto Repair Shop

There are many factors that could contribute to your car overheating. You should call your auto repair shop as soon as your temperature gauge starts to climb. If you cannot drive the vehicle, you can arrange a tow truck to take the car to your garage of choice. The sooner the professionals can look at your vehicle, the sooner they can fix the problem and get you back behind the wheel of your car.

Is Your Car Ready for Summer?

Sunday, April 5th, 2015

A Tucson summer is tough on your vehicle, which is why you should take the time to prepare it before the season starts. Read on to find out what you need to do to get your car ready for the summer.

Check Your Tires

Properly inflating the tires allows you to get better gas mileage and gives you more control while you drive. You should get your tires checked twice a month to make sure they are at the right pressure and that they are in good condition.

Maintain Your Cooling and Air Conditioning System

Air conditioning is essential when you are driving through Tucson in the summer. Maintaining your cooling system protects the engine as it works harder during the hotter seasons. An auto repair center can clear out leaves and other debris that might be stuck in the system. They should also check on the radiator cap and the antifreeze levels.

Change Your Oil

Changing your oil is one of the most important elements of maintaining your vehicle throughout the year. Look at your owner’s manual to see how often you should change your oil to keep the engine running smoothly. Older vehicles need the oil changed about every 3,000 miles and newer vehicles can usually last about 5,000 miles. Talk to the technicians at your auto repair shop about when you need your oil changed.

Check Your Windshield Wipers
