Signs That Your Transmission Is Having Trouble

Friday, March 20th, 2015

Your car’s transmission is one of its most important systems, transferring the power generated by the engine into the wheels to propel your car forward. Because this system is so vital to your vehicle’s function, it’s important to know the signs that your car needs prompt transmission repair.

Slow Engagement

When you move your gear shift, you’re telling your car to change gears. Any noticeable delay in shifting, whether you have an automatic or a manual transmission, is a sign that your transmission is having trouble. Slow gear engagement is often most noticeable when shifting from “park” to “drive.” If you notice a long pause before your car moves forward after shifting into drive, even after pressing the gas pedal, contact your auto repair service for an evaluation.

Gear Slippage

If your car uses an automatic transmission, you may notice gear slippage when your transmission needs attention. Gear slippage can cause several symptoms, such as changes in the pitch coming from your engine, whining sounds coming from your engine, or a change in the way your car handles while you are driving. If experience these changes while you drive, it’s best to have your mechanic take a look at your transmission.

Difficulty Shifting

Manual transmissions can be difficult to shift when they need repairs. During shifting, you may feel as though your car is resisting the change in gear or makes shifts that are noticeably rougher than usual. Other signs that your manual transmission is having difficulty changing gears include loud noises when you shift gears and a delay in getting up to speed after you change from one gear to another.

Do Your Wheels Need Alignment?

Thursday, March 5th, 2015

The alignment of your wheels can affect your car’s performance, as well as its safety. When your wheels are properly aligned, you’ll get the most reliable responses from your steering system, enhancing your driving experience, improving your gas mileage, and ensuring your car behaves as you expect every time you turn the wheel. If you have questions about your wheel alignment in Tucson, contact Automotive Recalibration Center to schedule an inspection.

Drifting

One of the most obvious signs that your wheels need alignment is drifting. When your steering wheel is in its neutral position, your car should continue in a straight line without correction or adjustment. If you find your car drifting to the left or the right even when your steering wheel is straight, it’s time to have your alignment checked and corrected.

Difficulty Steering

Any time you have difficulty steering, it’s a red flag that your steering system or wheels need attention. Because you rely on your steering system to determine the behavior of your car, never ignore problems such as a “sticky” steering wheel or difficulty turning the wheel in one direction or the other. Any time you feel your car is not responding well to the steering wheel, schedule an inspection and repairs to correct the issue for your safety.

Whether you’re experiencing trouble with your vehicle or it’s simply time for preventive maintenance, Automotive Recalibration Center is here to help. Call us today at (520) 433-4147 to schedule automobile service in Tucson for your personal vehicle or fleet of company cars.
