Why Is Routine Car Maintenance So Important?

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Maintenance is an important element of owning a car. If you want to get the most out of every mile, it is important to keep up with routine car maintenance. Keep reading to find out why:

They Keep Your Engine Lubricated and Running Smooth

Some of the common routine maintenance checks like oil and filter changes are essential for your engine. These services might seem like they are unimportant, but they actually contribute to the life of the engine. If you do not get them done regularly, your engine will not perform at its full potential. Be sure to get regular oil and filter changes to ensure that your engine works well for as long as possible.

They Keep the All of Your Systems Functioning Like they Should

From the ignition to the cooling system, there are a lot of small parts that work together to provide you with a working vehicle. Changing out the spark plugs and replacing the coolant are important tasks that can keep all of your car’s systems working the way they were meant to work.

They Keep You Safe

Another important aspect of getting routine car maintenance is your safety. When you take your car in for a maintenance check, the mechanics can look at the brakes and the tires and make sure they are working. If there is a problem with one of these important parts, it might make your car more dangerous to drive. Be sure to keep up with regular maintenance so you know that your car is safe to drive at all times.

Identifying Some Common Brake Problems

Monday, January 5th, 2015

The condition of your brakes directly affects whether or not your car is safe to drive. Look for some of the following signs of brake problems so you can get the automotive repair services that you need to keep your car running well:

Squealing

If you hear a squealing sound when you brake, it could be an indication that your brake pads are wearing too thin. When you start to hear this sound, it means that they have already started to thin out and no longer have the friction they need to stop as well as they should. Some brake pads have wear indicators that will make a chirping sound under light to no braking (coasting) conditions and the chirp goes away when the brake pedal is pressed harder. This would also be an indication that the brakes need to be inspected. If you ever hear squealing when you brake, you should definitely bring your car to the repair shop.

Decreased Braking Power

Another way to tell that you might need new brakes is by paying attention to how well they work. If you notice that your car does not stop as well as it once did, it could be a sign that your brake pads are too worn to stop the car as effectively as it should. Sometimes the brake pedals seem to sink closer to the floor when you press the brake. These signs could also be a result of a leak. No matter the cause of the problem, it is important to get the brakes checked out as soon as possible.

Pulling

If you notice that your car tends to favor a certain side when you brake, it could be a result of uneven wear and tear. It might also be an indication that there is something mixed in with the brake fluid. As soon as your car starts to pull toward a certain side when you brake, you should call the repair shop.
